Car Park Out Of Shade At Night

Recommended Posts

Friends,

How many of you park your cars without a shade at night?

Is there any bad to do so like dew?

Any prevention?

A 'without a shade at night'? You must mean 'park cars without any shelter at night'. Well I don't think dew is going to damage your car, but other weather patterns like hail stones, acidic rain, etc. might. In most areas of Sri Lanka though it shouldn't be an issue.

I find wet leaves falling on the car to be really annoying and apparently its really bad for the paint as well; so parking under trees and shrubs that shed leaves or flowers is something you'd want to avoid. Other than that, don't sweat it. Leaving the car outside in mild / normal weather isn't really going to affect it in my opinion.

If you have access to a garage, use it. Otherwise, well don't sweat it.

Parking under trees is a big No No, sometimes the leaves might clog the drain paths in the firewall surrounding and can cause corrosion which is expensive to fix.

Yes. That's what happens when you park under trees regularly. Even otherwise, it is a good idea to remove the cowl panel grille covering the wiper motor and clean the area all the way down the rain water drain once a year or so. You can use a car cover but must be very careful cos' you may end up damaging the paint while handling the cover.

My car still don’t have a shade, Like Rumesh said I remove the cowl panel ones a month and clean the leaves and dirt which are always blocking the drains. Small leaves are soo annoying. I think it’s high time I got a shade installed, lot of people does not recommend car covers, they say covers can ruin the paint and create patches if left un-attendant for some time.

Exactly .. Once I was compelled to park under a Neem tree overnight. The result was horrible. Had to do a 'cut & polish' to get rid of 'leaf patterns'. Anyway I'm not sure It because of the leaves alone or combined with the spray from the sea nearby.

can dew damages paint or brings corrosion over the time?

heard to wash the top with water b4 caught to sunshine nxt day...

In my opinion: I doubt it. You're over thinking it. I'd just enjoy the car. Besides who on earth has time to wash their car every morning?

( The only scenario that this would be an issue would be if the dew was acidic or heavily alkaline, but based on the way dew forms, I don't think that it would ever have any extreme PH values unless there is acidic or alkaline dust on your car. I've seen cars parked near tea factories get covered with reddish dust and if dew formed on top of that then I'm sure it would mess up the paint over time. But unless you work or park in an industrial area, and get your car covered with some kind of manufacturing dust or exhaust stack ash before the dew forms I doubt this would ever be an issue. )

when it comes to leaves "Pihimbia" (sorry i don't know the scientific/english name for it) is a real bi***. their size and shape ensure they get clogged and combined with water they leave stains on the paint.

you guys won't be complaining about pihimbiya if you have experience of parking near a 'kasa' tree.

Modern cars are pretty good at standing up to the weather. In SL the main issue is the Sun, not the rain. If your car does not have any exposed metal and the drains are clear, it is unlikely to suffer being exposed to the rain.

But things to be aware of are

1. Falling projectiles, particularly under trees

2. Bird and Bat droppings. These should be washed away immediately.

Personally I'd use a good quality car cover.
