congratz machan , one of my friends in Aussi drives a vxr , i was amazed of what he said, so sad we aren't seeing any of this here :(

Thank you! As Magnum said, I think you mean a VR-X and yes, the VR-X is actually the highest spec Lancer of them all. From outside, there are only a few subtle differences between the VR-X and the RalliArt

Congrats again macho.

it is a wonderful machine to own. wish you'd have own this here :P....... :smilie_liebe9:

as others said. please be safe with your drive and hoping to see this thread fills with awesome memories.

Looking forward to another fruitful Thread!!!!

Thanks machang! Yes, it would have been nice to own it in SL.

Congratz mate!

Thanks!

Congratz buddy! One hell of a car to own! :D

Thank you! :)

Congratulations Davy !!! It's a one beautiful car you have... :) We have spoken about this about 2 months ago and you are already owning one. Really happy for you machan...!!!

Thanks SamG! Yes, I was always keeping an eye out for the model and quickly picked this one as it had everything that I was looking for.

Congratulations Davy.

Thanks!

You mean VR-X? :P

I saw couple of CH series for sale when my cousin was searching for a car

They have a body kit, spoiler, nice alloys, strut bar

Some have a 2.0L and some have a 2.4L

Even the CY series has a VR-X and comes with a 2.4L (4B12) engine.

Nice one machang..! How does the twin clutch gear box feel? I hear that it`s not as quick as Golf GTI`s DSG box, but I’m sure it`s quick enough. Does it down-shift well? Got rev-match/throttle blip on downshifts?

Yes, the RalliArt has a turbo engine (as I said before, same engine as the Evolution X), but the VR-X has a non-turbo engine

The series names for the Lancer in Australia is a bit different, I'm not sure how they are named but the names are not related to the platform number (the one we use to refer to cars in Sri Lanka. CK, CS and so on). They're as follows:

CK Platform is referred to as the CK Lancer in Sri Lanka, but as the CE Lancer in Australia

CS Platform is referred to as the CS Lancer in Sri Lanka, but as the CG (pre-facelift) and GH (facelift) Lancer in Australia

GS Platform is referred to as the CY Lancer in Sri Lanka, but as the CJ Lancer in Australia

So, CJ referrers to the entire series including the Evo. Mine is CY (CY4 to be exact), the Lancer EX in Sri Lanka is CY1. More info here.

Thanks! Feels like nothing I have driven before. Noticed that shifting is a bit laggy when the transmission is cold, but after it warms up, it shifts almost instantly. In normal mode it shifts as if we would shift a manual when driving economically. But it screams the hell out when switched into sport mode and uses everything it's got.

Yes, it downshifts as well and yes again - it instantly shifts down when you put your foot down. Driving in manual mode is most fun. :)

Ok, cool.. :) The reason I ask is because it’s unclear whether Mitsubishi is going to continue developing/sourcing duel clutch boxes or go with CVT`s. They haven’t really used a duel clutch box on anything else apart from the Evo and Ralliart Lancer haven’t they? Even the revised Outlander has got a CVT on the petrol variant. Subaru on the other hand are sticking to their guns with CVT`s and the gear box on the current WRX is quite brilliant..!

I was surprised to find out that hey have actually used it on the 2009 - 2011 Outlander as well. But the newer model seems to be having CVT, so it doesn't really look like they are keen on using them on future models.

Mitsubishi's TC-SST is manufactured by a company named Getrag. I remember reading that the initial versions of the transmission were not perfect and that consumers (of the Evolution primarily) had a lot to complain about. Fortunately for Mitsubishi, newer versions of the transmission proved to be pretty reliable even when pushed really hard. Apparently, the earlier transmissions gave trouble also due to Mitsubishi severely underestimating the level of service required for the TC-SST transmission.

Hello Gents,

After months of research and patience, I have finally found "The One". A car I have been waiting to own for as long as I can remember... a 10th Generation Lancer. What I managed to get is a Lancer RalliArt. Since this particular model isn't available in Sri Lanka (to my knowledge), let me give a brief introduction to the car.

Mitsubishi introduced the 10th generation Lancer (Referred to as the Lancer EX in Sri Lanka) in 2008 and it was certainly a different Lancer when compared to previous models. From the hooded brow over the headlights that give it an aggressive look, to the matching rear end, it was a brand new look for the Lancer. Back in 2008 when Mitsubishi launched the 10th gen Lancer, they only really had two variants: The Lancer EX (GLX, GLS, GT) and then the mighty track monster Evolution X.

While the Lancer EX comes with engines ranging from 1.5L (4A91) through 2.0L (4J10 and 4B10) to 2.4L (4B12), the power of all these engines were in the range of 109 - 170 horsepower while the Evolution X has a 2.0L Turbo (4B11T) engine that outputs 276 horsepower (The FQ400 in the UK has a massive 403 hp!). That's a pretty big gap right there and Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer RalliArt in 2009 to bridge the gap.

The RalliArt also has a 4B11T 2.0L turbocharged engine - the same engine that comes in the Evo X, de-tuned. It outputs 237hp - that's 54 less than the Evo. It's basically ideal for day-to-day use as well as a drive along a twisty road or a track if you are keen. :) To put it into perspective, if the Evolution is compatible with the Subaru WRX STi, then the RalliArt is head to head with the WRX.

Throughout this thread I will try my best to log detailed information about the RalliArt (strengths, weaknesses, comparisons etc.) and also share information about the journey with my car. Hope this will be helpful to someone some day.

Before going into any more detail, here she is...

An informal road test that I kind of enjoyed watching:

Davy u lucky devil! That is pure car porn!

I always thought Lancers look great in red, but I guess I love the white beauty more!

Getrag is one of the best known transmission manufacturers up there with ZF, Borg Warner and Allison. Did you say the Ralliart comes with a SST? That's a dual clutch. Nice!

Yes madmax, it's Mitsubishi's TC-SST that comes with the Evolution X. While the Evo has three shift modes (Normal, Sport and Super Sport), the RalliArt has two (Normal and Sport). There are places that does transmission ECU re-flashing that allows Super Sport mode to be enabled.

Mitsubishi TC-SST Video Series by MRT Performance

Here's a series of videos by MRT Performance - a workshop in New South Wales, Australia that does work on performance cars. The gentleman in the videos is Brett Middleton, a pleasant character whom I contacted before buying my car, for advice. He pointed out from where I can get my car serviced in Victoria (since NSW is almost 1000km away). A knowledgeable engineer.

My first batch of parts arrived today. :) Nothing special, just a bunch of things currently missing/damaged on the car.

The RalliArt comes with a set of floor mats unique to this model. Unfortunately, the driver's side floor mat has been replaced with something else. And the front passenger floor mat was not it it's best condition. So I decided to go for a new set.

The driver's foot rest was missing in my car. Someone probably forgot to re-attach it after a repair and the owner never noticed. Got myself one (this one is used but looks brand new):

An original reverse camera with harness. Just plug and play into the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System. And it should work fine. The housing of this one is black, I will have to get it painted in white. The position of the camera is actually the centre of the trunk lid. I'm not really sure if I want to drill the trunk lid to mount this, so I might dismantle the housing and install it near the number plate. I'm guessing it will affect the picture and cause objects to look like they are too close to the car when they are actually not. Will try it out and see first.

Parking brake grip. The one on the car has cracks on the leather surface. I ordered the gear knob as well as it has similar wear. But the seller has forgotten to include it in the package. I'll have to contact the seller and work out a deal as I want some other parts from him. So might ask him to ship the gear knob with the new bits.

A little update:

After driving the car for a few hundred kilometres, I noticed a few issues:

1. Erratic idle RPM

The first issue was that the idle RPM was jumping around between 500 and 1000 when the engine was warm. On a cold start, it goes up to about 2000 and slowly comes down as the engine warms up, but still the RPM needle was just moving about. I got the throttle body cleaned up and this issue went away. Noticed that the agent had only cleaned IAC and had not done a full throttle body clean-up. I was advised to get a upper cylinder clean-up at the next service. Something very commonly done here in Australia and this is the general "tune-up" you get here.

2. Rattling gearbox when warm
Experienced a faint rattle from the gearbox (with the same kind of feeling that you get when the clutch is slipping on a manual). The transmission oil was flushed and refilled with a replacement transmission oil filter (the oil was really expensive!) and the issue was solved. The transmission shifts much much smoother now and is more responsive as well.

The reason behind the rattle was explained beautifully by the foreman there. The wet clutch packs are pressed against each other using the transmission fluid (this is explained in one of the articles I shared previously on this thread). When the oil goes bad, it is unable to generate enough pressure on the clutches to engage them properly, causing them to slip and emit a rattling sound. He also advised that the issue might resurface again, and to bring it back if it does, so that they can open up the transmission and give it a good clean-up.

3. Brake squeal when cold

I advised the agent to replace all brake pads, but they got back to me saying that the brake pads have been replaced only 10,000km ago and that the pads are still in very good condition. They had cleaned the brakes and now the squeal is no more.

4. Suspension noise when going over a speed bump

I felt that this comes from the upper strut mounts, and I was right. The shocks, bushes and linkages are all good, but the upper strut mount needs to be cleaned and re-greased because of excessive gunk and mud build up. To do this, the entire front suspension needs to be taken out, but they didn't have time to do this. So this was put off until the next service. However, I took the car and washed the wheel wells with a high pressure washer and I didn't hear the noise afterwards.

Apart from the above, the routine service was done, which includes an oil change, topping up of all fluids and a full inspection of the entire car followed by a diagnosis. She feels even better now. :)
