Yes it does. @Dee Jay and I many years ago did a 0-100 test in a Premio and my Civic. The Civic was a tad quicker to 100 Km/h. [Speaking of Toyotas - the Civic could not hold a candle to my 1.3L 4EFE swapped EP71 though. That thing was scarily fast since we were running an engine designed for much heavier cars on a tiny tin-can of an 80's car. I sometimes get carried away when I drive it, hence I sold it to a 19 year old boy. I really do hope he drives responsibly]

The GP5 is a very very peppy car, it also has a Dual-Clutch transmission so it's at a whole different level compared to the kill-joy CVT on the Civic - very engaging to drive.

I test drove a Honda Grace, it was so weird. So I didn't explore any DCT cars, plus the potential repair on a DCT/Hybrid cost is too high, so I skipped the DCT/Hybrid systems entirely given my luck. Otherwise, I was hell bent on a Vezel (for being bigger since I'm fat and 6ft tall) or a Grace (3M cheaper than Vezels and Civics).

Also yeah, the older JDM cars with engine swaps are insane. A friend of mine has an EG6, it's a rocket. And another friend has an Evo 7, which is even more insane. Sadly, both of them have taken their cars apart for months and are doing full restoration since those cars are their second cars and also serve as project cars.

What do you mean by weird? Maybe the Grace you test drove had a badly repaired DCT giving you the weird vibes :D

Well, the potential repair cost for a DCT hybrid is mostly similar to that of the Civic 1.0T I guess or even lower maybe @misnad here would agree :D

DCTs are fun to drive...sadly, they don't hold up too well when it comes to the Lankan style of driving. This applies to all brands.

Uhh....this shouldn't be surprising ne ? The Civic should have about 115?-120hp with some decent torque once the turbo spools up (I am reckoning about 175Nm ?) at about 3000-4000rpms ?. Compare that to about 105hp and about 140Nm of torque of a 1.5L Premio/Allion...it should be pretty straight-forward (also explains why it puffs out next to the Hybrid Corolla). This also goes along with Honda's claims on downsizing. They say the 1.5L turbo engines in the Civic/CR-V/Accord should give performance equivalent to that of a 1.8L to 2.0L engines (this is quite different to Toyota's approach to downsizing..at least until now).

That has always been one of Hondas traits....the peppy feeling and the driver engagement (irrespective of whether they were actually quicker or not than the competition). In the 80s and 90s they did get the reputation for being the Japanese BMW.

Also, this might explain why so many Civic drivers are complete a**h***s on the road. Seriously...so many of them come up and then start this whole drag war thing for no bloody reason. Then they run out of puff and block the lanes. Seriously ! (got dashcam video footage from yesterday to prove it..).

It was really weird, not sure if the DCT was gone. Guy had a CarChecks report suggesting it is fine. I didn't like the drive at all, so I moved away. Funnily enough, the Grace comes as Honda City in Malaysia, where I drove a load of them, believe they were higher than 1.5L, can't remember if it was 1.6L or 1.8L, those were smooth as hell.

I had a friend back in Uni who always told me:
"If you see a Honda driver, run as far as possible. It's always the Honda drivers."

Now that I got one, I understand why. The car is literally begging you to go heavy foot (the overall feel of the car). Also, please share the clips :D

Cmon, driving in Mexico is an expression, not literally 🥲. But I did actually live in Malaysia for 3 years.

Too afraid...last time I saw a Honda and Toyota going at speed next to each other the cars got taken by the cops :D Those 3 gear Hondas are a bad influence.

huh ? cant see what is funny. City is the export model name and Grace the Japanese market name. Before the Grace it was City and Fit Aria. When the City became a sedan they couldn't use the City name in Japan because in Japan the City badge was used as a variant name  on other little hatchbacks (which is funny because when the City hatch was in Japan it had a variant called the Fit).

Nope..cannot be. The CIty/Grace (i.e. 6th gen) came with a 1.5L gasoline or hybrid engine. In Japan they offered both while in Malaysia they offered only the gasoline variant prior to the facelift. The gasoline variant came with a CVT while the Hybrid had the DCT. Are you sure you are not saying the Malaysian variant was smooth because the DCT had the gear shift feel along with a proper feel of reaching the torque limit while the CVT just felt smooth and the engine was endlessly revy ?

Oh, I've not driven many DCTs extensively. I think you're right, they were not Hybrid. I've mostly driven an automatic (121) and CVTs. Probably felt odd by the DCT or like someone else mentioned, might be a faulty DCT. It just felt odd. I put the car on Drive and slowly released the brake pedal, and the car wouldn't budget. I had to hit the gas pedal for it to start moving and then I could control it with the brake (No, brakehold was not turned on).

Hahaha :D Most Sri Lankans think hybrids are slow (maybe due to the way their owners drive them) and try to race you but little do they know that hybrids are quicker than most common models in SL.. Since your Corolla Wagon Hybrid is a rare sight in Sri Lanka the FK6 driver might have gotten offended :D

Dude...it is a wagon. Why on earth would a hatchback want to race a wagon. That is like a young dude challenging a pregnant lady with a 3-year-old hanging off of her arm to a 100m race (before finding out the lady can run).

Yes this was obvious - we simply wanted to put the matter to rest -whether the numbers on paper actually translated to a faster car. Re - the torque yes the Civic has a very nice amount of torque- it has a bit of a turbo-charged diesel feeling to it.

that particular 3 gear Honda was as I heard a swap. I do not know whether it was legitimately done or not. Same question popped up in my mind regarding the Starlet - though technically it would at least be the same engine capacity.  :D ... BTW did anyone see the Gen X Civic  running on CAD plates (off a Toyota Aqua)? This was also on the traffic group on FB.

Apparently Toyota and Honda together are prone to stir controversy.

For a while I had a Nissan AD wagon all 1.3 Liters of QG13 goodness and  It was SLOW and I mean SLOW and it probably showed. I think every driver treated it like a pregnant lady with a toddler in tow - I was like "Why is everyone nice to me?" "oh wait I'm in my AD wagon"

Did the civic hear you say this? That the Premio and Allion has better driving pleasure than it? If so your Civic is probably venting out it's anger on you :D

lol I recall mentioning it once to my wife while driving the Civic; got the AC issues the very next day. It’s alive!

Should resort to having a little chat with the car on a daily now to keep it going. It can’t complain though as I got a complete detailing job done the day before - took it to the spa!

Think I’ll keep the Civic a while longer… and maybe check out the cost of the 1.5L conversion 😀.

Just so you know...once you upgrade to 1.5L, that doesn't mean you can swap it again and make it a 2.0L (you know...Type Rs and all). It is 500cc above "mul akruthiya" unless you change the fuel type :D

Hey guys.. how's everyone been doing? Hope you're all safe with the crazy weather and stuff. I've managed to fix every single issue with the Civic! Been driving it trouble-free for a while now and super happy. After all these years, I've just driven the fellow 58k km... good fun and certainly helped me learn a lot through the troubling times, but I'm really glad it's almost like a new car now!

Unfortunately, I've decided to part ways with it. Been a good 7 years now and I guess it's time I look for something else. In case anyone is keen on the car, do hit me up. I know I'll miss the fellow once he's gone, but I guess that's life. Oh and I just realized that if anyone wants a maintenance record of the car, it's all listed on this massive thread! :D Gotta love the community.

I saw the Ad :D immediately recognizable . I sold mine at 53,000 Km in late September. Now driving a brand new Vezel :D miss the Civic yes but the Vezel is cool in a whole different way and yeah I need to fuel only once a month.

😀 nice! Enjoy the Vezel! That once a month refueling must certainly feel awesome.

As for the ad, I took it off some of the FB pages and just left it on Marketplace due to some bots and spammers. One thing though, I just realized again how gorgeous those Unity Performance smoked out side markers are when looking through the ad pics 😀. That’s one purchase I have zero regrets about.

Wish the person who decides to purchase my Civic is an enthusiast and will care for the fellow like I did.

Whoever gets your car will be very lucky. I sold mine a year back and I miss the driving pleasure and low slung seating position. I checked out the new civic at the motor show and it looked the part but at 26 million absolutely not worth it.

Dude, it is sad to see you part ways with the FK6. I re-read the entire thread (all 32 pages) twice. Once in April (right after I got the car) and just now (took me 4 hours).

Also, did you get around trying out non-Honda brake pads? I've got a few brake issues, and apparently the disc (is that what it is called?) needs to be re-phased and new brake pads. Also, a slight noise from the wheel bearing? I hope it is not an insanely expensive repair if it gets to it. 😭

Also, a quick thing to share: Certain FK6's expect C2 ACEA (So Motul1 ESP works fine), but mine, which is a 2017 EX 1L Turbo, expects A3/B3 or A5/B5 ACEA compliant oil. Thank god I don't have to spend 50K on engine oil again. A5/B5 oils are cheaper than C2 🥲
