Is there any clue of the way import taxes on vehicles move in the coming budget??

if the proposed elections are to be held, definitely a reduction temporarily for small cars.

Meanwhile, any assembled or unassembled diesel motor vehicle of which cylinder capacity exceeds 2,300cc or a petrol motor vehicle of which the cylinder capacity exceeds 1,800cc or an electric vehicle of which motor power of the engine exceeds 200 kW will be liable for ‘Luxury Tax,’ which should be paid at the time of importation to the Director General of Customs.

This one-time tax will not be applicable to vehicles imported by diplomatic missions and dual-purpose petrol vehicles with the cylinder capacity not exceeding 2,200cc.

A tax called ‘Vehicle Entitlement Levy’ has also been slapped on every importer of motor vehicles while a ‘Carbon Tax’, as proposed in the Budget 2018, will be levied on motor vehicles based on their age and fuel type.

Electric vehicles are exempt from the tax. The vehicle owner should pay the tax for every year other than for the first year of registration of the motor vehicle to the Divisional Secretary, on or before the due date of renewal of annual registration.

Hi.

If there's any tax increase will it apply for vehicles that are in shipments and the ones with already opened LC's? How was this handled in 2018 budget?

If the current policy continues will not be effected

There's no reason for the government to reduce the prices....

Before the election there going to be another budget.... in November 2019

Yes,because there is no mechanism to get 20 years old vehicles out of the roads.

Instead of taxing vehicles with new technology during import, there should be a system to take out 20+yrs old vehicles with high emissions and poor safety features off the roads by making them too expensive to register.

Then there will be a huge inflow of vehicles and the rupee will drop even more. The dollar will rise to 300.

Keeping old cars running is a good thing for the middle class. They can use them on a rainy day.

I saw a newspaper article today, some financial specialists have done a research on current vehicle market and they found that there are unregistered vehicles available in vehicle importers yards which can full fill the next five year vehicle demand. This is including cars, three wheelers and motor bikes. They state that bringing down such amount of vehicles in a short period is a main reason for the foreign currency crisis

They can use them on sunny corrola and lancer a4 and elentra days too
