So fuel economy figures are almost same with 92+octane boosters. Did my first long distance trip to Kandy from Kurunegala after switching to 92, Avg FE is 14ish kmpl according to tank refill method, 13.8kmpl according to trip computer which is about same what I used to get from 95 octane - this is under spirited driving too, avg speed is 50kmph

BTW @iRage

Any comments on running 92 + Octane boosters long term? If knock sensor was retarding the timing fuel economy should've suffered, right?

I used 92 throughout the time I had my EX from 2008-2011 did approximately 75K km without any issues. There was no noticeable power loss or economy. Mine did not even needed a throttle body clean up or a tune up that were required by most of the EXs serviced by the agent.

Wasn't 92 octane introduced in 2014 though?

3 years and almost 25,000km under my ownership. It is time for an engine tune up.
The usual procedures were followed.

Fuel injectors were removed/tested and cleaned.
Throttle body was cleaned- I was surprised to see the load of dirt/Carbon deposits.
Air intake system was cleaned. Air filter was on it's way out so ordered Mitsubishi genuine air filter from partsouq (Part Num 1500A023). Placed the order 0n 28th Jan and arrived on 3rd of Feb via Aramex.
spark plugs checked and car is still rocking with the original Bosch spark plugs set. One was on it's way out so all 4 needs replacing. This is a pending task for me.
Finally the scan was done with no errors found.

Overall it was a tune up done right at midland auto Pvt limited.
The guy was tidy and did a fantastic job and I knew it when I saw drops of water coming out from the exhaust.
Took almost 3 hours for the tune up.

Cost for the tuneup+labor- 12,000rs.
Air filter cost-9800rs (including shipping).

Hi @K.o.N.o.S, Thanks for sharing the details with photos. glad to hear that the car is treating you well.

With regard to the tune up, the O-rings that are located near the bottom of the injectors are replaced when the tuneup is done at the Agent. I think I shared this in my earlier posts on the tune-up. Usually they last about 50k kms so if you had them replaced before, no issue. From the looks of your photos though, it seems that they are pretty burnt up. Suggest to get them checked in order to be sure.

The cost of Air Filter seems almost same as with the agent isn't it? I replaced mine two services ago (5 months before) and I remember the cost was around 10k.

I've been waiting to update few repairs done to my EX but could not find time. Will update them here if I get a free time.

Cheers!

Hi @trinityThanks for pointing this out. I specifically asked about the injectors when they were removed for clean up. The guy said they are in pretty good condition. With regards to the O-rings I will have this looked at again just to be sure.

Most of the running repairs (Mechanical) are done at home by my trusted mechanic who lives next door. for routine maintenance/Services I go to Midland Auto PVT limited in Gampola (been going here for 3 years).

Guys so octane 95 is available for you? Me no luck yet. Do you run the vehicles with 92 + octane boosters? (even boosters are out of stock).

Yup, stocked octane boosters back when those were 1500. Have enough for 7 more tankfulls, then pure 92 for me 🤧

How much did it cost?

I've been contemplating switching to 92 permanently once my octane boosters run out

19009.00rs for just over 42 litres. Actually to my surprise the ride felt pretty smooth after pumping 95. I was using 92+ STP booster before.

Hmm, considering that the added cost per km is like Rs. 2, might as well go with 95...

It's just that I couldn't feel any difference between 92+octane boosters and 95. Not even fuel economy. Managed to hit 16+ on long distance runs using 92+boosters

I was diluting one can per 60L too, despite the recommended ratio being 1 can per 50L.

Ah well, let's see if there's 95 available at the station next time. If there is, I'll pump 95 and see if she runs smoother

Im sure I typed a reply to this but dont know what has happed to it.

I'm running on 92 for a little while now. Cant identify any difference though. Maybe our 95 is bad or there's no major difference of the two. Any how, at this rate it wont be soon that we would drive our cars about 100kms per month rather than thousands of kms. My car is not a daily anymore as I cant afford the petrol cost to run the car daily to Colombo for a month.

Just switched to a staff transport.

Unit#d Mot#rs fellows are so strict on fixing parts bring from out side!! I wanted to replace brake pads imported for my EC, they refused to fix it (kandy) though I wanted to get it done from them since the electronic parking brake release needed to be done. I am wondering how sustainable their approach would be especially during the recession time of the country.

Anyways, I got it done outside :) as the relevant scanner was available....

Hello Guys,

Few repairs were done on the car.

Radiator Coolant tank was leaking and upon checking it was tattered in half.replaced with a brand new tank at kandy radiator house. It was such a pain to remove the radiator as I specifically advised to remove the unit without removing the front bumper. It was finally doable and the guy was extremely patient in removing and replacing the unit. Gave him generous tip for a job well done.I was also advised that radiator also was on it's way out. but damn!! the price of the brand new unit is 150000.00rs. Considering the cost definitely not doable at this point of time.

Cost for the tank and the coolant-19000.00rs

As of late I have been having starting issues where the car was hesitant to start at the first go.The situation got worse after a few days and my mechanic examined and advised that the problem is definitely with the starter motor and needed immediate service. Service was done at Roshan auto electronics where the starter Brusher and the starter solenoid had to be replaced.Roshan electronics are pretty much starter motor specialists they had the brand new units so replaced them right away.

Starter brusher- 2800.00rs
Starter solenoid- 5800.00rs
Labour charges-2000.00rs
Total- 10600.00rs

As I mentioned on an earlier maintenance thread my long due spark plug replacement was finally done. (after almost 13 years). Ordered through partsouq and arrived at home via Aramex.
Cost for the spark plug set and 4 bumper clips- 86.32$
Total cost-36700.00rs (including shipping and 4700.00rs tax charges)

and finally some small aesthetic touches.

Headlight cover was polished and resurfaced.
front grill Mitsubishi badge was turned to black (since I am not a fan of chrome accents).
Steering wheel was wrapped with leather cover (Hand Knitted).
Side mirrors were wrapped with carbon fiber sticker.
Smoked side markers were Installed.

Cheerz.

Damn this look.. never get enough of it!!!!

Thanks for sharing the updates.

The price you've mentioned about the radiator? Is that for a brand new one or a recon one? Nevertheless, that's a crazy amount for a radiator. Any particular reason as to why you insisted not to remove the bumper?

Guess you replaced the existing side marker lights with blacked out ones. Hope they light up sufficiently. They look nice on the car. Not a fan of those carbon wraps on the mirror covers and the steering wrap job machang.

With regard to the replacing of spark plugs, usually they were supposed to be changed in 100k intervals. Surprised that the originals have been used for that much of time. Do you feel a considerable change in performance and FE after the change or is it on the same level? Mine had been changed back in 2018 at the mileage of 94k. Now the car is at 188k. So I was instructed to get the plugs changed during my next tuneup. Looks like partsouq route is bit expensive than buying them locally.

I still could not share the repairs done to the car during the past year or so. There weren't many but some of the repairs were repetition of the earlier ones.

Lets see if I could find time during the weekend to put an update.

Recon one was 85k Machan. 150k for the brand new unit. Last time when the bumper was removed during the AC repair we were not able to fit it back in properly when assembling. Hence in some areas had to paste it using hard glue to the body.

Side markers are pretty good. These are sequential side markers. Saw a youtube video and fell in love right away.

About the side mirrors since the car roof is blacked out I think it goes well with the black and blue theme. Anyway that is totally subjective.

Well to be honest since replacing spark plugs car is pretty much stationary at home due to fuel scarcity. Have done only 2-3km runs. Hence I am not in a position to comment on FE. I think those Bosh spark plugs are pretty reliable considering that I have replaced at 131k. I assume they still had about 10-15k left on them. I think in Amayama they are a bit less expensive. However so far I have had nothing but positive experience on Partsouq+Aramex shipping. It took only 6 days to arrive at home.

Should've just replaced the plastic retainers + clips imo. They lose their flexibility and get hard with time and when you remove the clips to get the bumper off they get deformed. Deformed retainers and clips cause the bumper to not fit back properly.

Yeah it was a one-off, guess it was something else. I need to change my serpentine belt because it makes a squealing noise sometimes on cold start, maybe I heard something related to that
