Abandoned Cars ?

1st of all if your a new timer to restoring classic cars then I suggest that you do your homework on the availabiltiy of parts and the costs involved before buyinh a car also take note of the expertise needed to restore as not all mechanics can do it,some fellows specialise only in one make (eg: VW bass )

I personally suggest that you leaved aside Beamers for now and look at Cortinas (they do get advertised in sunday papers) or a old Morris Minor (split windscreen) or VW Beetle,even a Peugeot 203 is good as these are failrly easy to repair and parts are still found in Maradana (only exception being the Peugeot 203 but that to can be sourced from the 'watte' if you search well)

im quite new here.these posts are heartbreaking.anywy i'll get to the point.i just want to restore a car.something catchy.not a a lancer L light or sunny B211...

something like an old beemer,a ford cortina,capri or anything like that.but i dont know where to find one.they cannot be found on newspapers right??

so someone please help me on finding a car or a place where i can go looking for them.thanks in advance.....

I certainly agree with carboy2011. VW beetles, Morris Minors, or maybe A30 or A35s are easy to find ,easy to restore and easy to sell once the project is completed (if required). Thats how I started . You can easily download VW,MM,A35 restoration projects /Manuals from web nowadays.Good Luck with your maiden project!

When members disuses about abandon cars, I thought I will add this post.

Late Mr. Gunasekera who was a great Cricketer played for Srilankan teem and I think he was the captan of Srilankan teem, had number of classic cars in his residence, at Dickmonds road.

He used to start them keep them running for few minutes and stop. for number of years in 1980s.

He never drove them. After his death, I do not know what happened those Classic vehicles.

Any one knows where about of those vehicles.

yes i remember them Sylvi as in the 2000's i dont think they were evne started as they didnt look in good health when you passed that way,he had a big Packard car which he had sold a few years back to a well known garage owner in Col 5 its a huge mighty beast

I certainly agree with carboy2011. VW beetles, Morris Minors, or maybe A30 or A35s are easy to find ,easy to restore and easy to sell once the project is completed (if required). Cortinas are good cars but look out for corrosion as they are famous for it,you wont find one thats 100% rust free but then hey your into restoring them right! just make sure that the corrosion is repairable and the body is not out of shape

yes a MK2 is fine,you might also like to look at any Ford Escorts too if they are for sale

There is a Carmingia and 400cc motor cycle. At Frankfort place Bambalapitiya No. 17, Owner wanted to restore that I do not know he did that or still there.

Yeah a Cortina Mk2, I would say a bit of a complicated car for a newbie.Parts are very rare.Im sure you are talking about a Mk3and not Mk2. still Mk3s are too complicated as a maiden project.Try a simple car. else your first project will be the last..now thats a sad scenario..

I would not recommend restoring a car you had to settle for.you'll surely end up loosing interest in it when the going gets tough.Be patient,save up and then go for a vehicle you truly feel passionate about. Edited December 18, 2011 by MasterDon

I would not recommend restoring a car you had to settle for.you'll surely end up loosing interest in it when the going gets tough.Be patient,save up and then go for a vehicle you truly feel passionate about.

The first time I saw this BMW like this I went.. "woah...!!!"

I moved to a new home in Athurugiriya about an year ago and this car has been lying there since then in an empty block of land in the neighbourhood. I believe it has been there for over 2 years now. I don't know who the owner is or why the car is left abandoned. My thinking was that "some people are too stupid enough to realize that the BMW they left to rust is worth so much more to someone else"

Sometimes the wild grass in the land grows so high up that the car is barely visible...

Well this neighbourhood is enclosed and guarded by a security point; no outsider can enter without permission. So I guess if anyone steals parts out of it, it'll definitely have to be an inside job (or the security guys themselves)!

I suspect its been stolen and dumped there where it won't raise questions. Might be worthwhile having the cops see if they can trace the owner, just to make sure it isn't stolen.

may be the owner died and he has no kids + his wife doesn't know how to drive and she doesn't know where the key is..

Bloody hell that's a 5 innit? And looks properly abandoned!

There was a '99 A4 gathering rust near my house in mount, for over a year, just like this, until a nearby garage rescued it... Sad
