Car Jerks

AMI0755

Recommended Posts

I own a honda fit hybrid - 2012,

When i accelerator slowly after a certain speed (some times it is between 10 -20 some time 20 - 40 ), the car jerks. This is similar to the jerk i get if i press on the accelerator before the car comes out of auto stop.

It clocked 14.7 km/l before this started and now the value is down to 13.9 km/l

Also i have noticed that it do not switch that often to EV as it used to do.

1 - Any one knows why this happens

2 - Best place to check this up, i have a Sterling warranty but I did not like the first service i did there.

1. Some symptoms on modern vehicles are difficult to diagnose unless with the aid of a diagnostic unit (scanner). Take your car to a good mechanic and get a diagnosis done. They might take the car for a spin with the scanner connected to the car so that the issue can be re-created and the values can be observed at that time.

2. Not sure about Sterling, but I guess there is no harm in getting a diagnosis done by them. Once they identify the issue, it's up to you to either select Sterling or another place for the repair.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

You're not driving fast enough. Your battery isn't charging, and the engine is working more coz the battery isn't charging. Change your driving style.

Firstly, I did not get a chance to get the car for a check up due to some personal commitments,

One thing i have noticed, is that when i press the break peddle down very hard when i stop the jerking is not there when i press on the accelerator. Also when i pick up the car fast/quick then also there is no jerk (may be it is the driving style)

Regarding the CVT oil, it has done only 9000+ km, and when asked i was told that i can change it around 33000, but my plan is to change it @ the next service which falls around 13500, because all the FIT users (non hybrid, both my neighbor and brother), do it every 15000.

Once i find out the what was wrong i will post the details in this thread,

thank you all :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Wel, i think any one can get details of what is wrong of there car,

My problem was a faulty EGR Valve, and it has a direct impact on the fuel consumption, at least that is what they told me.

Sterling cleaned valve to see whether build up carbon is a problem, but after two days the problem is back, as they told i can get it done through warranty. I have to go back and get it done.

  • 1 month later...

Wel, After almost two months, i think i can review this thread, This is my full story about the EGR replacement;

During the Inspection done on 13th October 2014, it was detected that the EGR unit was faulty and it was cleaned by Sterling After care, and was informed that if the problem occurs again the EGR need to be replaced. I have to contact the vendor in order to see whether the part is covered by Warranty.

I contacted the vendor on 16th October since the problem reoccurred and the vendor informed me that Sterling will be calling me on the next day and I did not receive call for two days. I called back on same Saturday, to learn I have to contact the Technical Manager. Sterling gave me the phone number to call, but the phone was never answered. I called back to Sterling to know the reason, and learned that Technical Manager is might be on leave.

I was able contact the Technical Manager back and forth few times, to finally learn that the part is ordered and it will take 2 – 3 Weeks to get the part to SL, confirming that I got another call from Sterling asking for my details Vehicle No. etc. This was on 22nd October 2014

I waited for three weeks, expecting Sterling will call me back, But did not receive a call so i called back on 12th November 2014; the people in the service deck did not have any clue to what I am talking about and I was again directed to Technical Manager. He took my details and promised to call me back and he told that he has received some EGR and he will check and let me know.

Since I did not receive any call from the Sterling, that seem to be their normal practice; I called back and after few attempts I was able to contact the technical manager, and he told that Sterling After Care is the service provider and if Sterling Japan and the vendor agree and ship the part he will be able to fix it and it will take a further two weeks. I reminded him about the conversation we had about three weeks ago. I also told him that I was a frustrated person now and not happy about their service. He insisted that I have to contact the vendor and instructions need to come through form the vendor .

I called the Vendor again, the same day and the Vendor wanted me to send a Email with the details.

After I called the Vendor and was typing away the email; the Technical Manager calls me to inform that the part is not covered by Warranty and no one has contact him about this so this has been dragged. He will speak to his GM to know the details

Then after about two day the Vendor SMS me to call Sterling After care in a weeks time and Sterling Japan has agreed to replace my part for free.

So when i contacted Sterling After Care i was told i will have to wait for a week and they will call me for an appointment when they get the part.

I did not get call from Sterling and I called back, and contacted the Technical Manager, he very casually told the they have received a shipment on the previous Friday; which he did not check. He will call me back, but the call did not come as promised, in 10 mins.

This time called the General Manager, to let him know the poor service they provide. I queried him how long will it take a part to be replaced, he told the shipment will have to be shipped from Japan, and it will take one week to 10 days, why i was asked to wait for three weeks I did not get a proper answer. He also told that if a battery needs to be replaced it will take six months, since the battery need to come through production, form the factory. Is HONDA out of production or has the technology changed that much, i do not know :P

I got it replaced for free after a struggle of about six weeks, good that i was able run the car, if was not able to do so, i will be doomed for 6 weeks.

I wonder why I need this trouble, if it was not covered by the warranty and I could have got this replaced outside, I guess if I do that my warranty might become null and void. But if it takes 5 weeks and about 50 phone calls back and forth, I wonder why I need a warranty, because I can get it replace by one phone call and one drive to my good old garage.

The warranty is an agreement between Sterling Japan and the Vendor, Sterling is just the middle man doing a job and making an earning.

Will the Vendor be able to switch the service partner to suit the actual customer, if so i guess this type of service will be punished :

Sterling is a SRI LANKAN company with an operation in Japan. Not a Japanese company. It was founded by a local car mudalali who now lives in Japan.

Did you expect any better service from a mudalali-run operation? There's no accountability for these organizations.

Sorry to hear your "sterling" experience on warranty. Did the new EGR solve your problem? I am a bit surprised to learn that an EGR would fail in a two year old car.

Damn yours was a shitty experience. I had a battery replacement done through Sterling about a year back and they were quite efficient at it. Got it done within a month and didnt have to chase them around. I even wrote my positive experience here praising them

But i had a jerk in my CVT and when i took it to show them, they were not as enthusiastic. According to them my gearbox needed to be replaced. My gearbox was under warranty - but according to them i had voided the warranty because i had changed CVT fluid from elsewhere. I did change it outside with genuine oil but the reason i did was when i asked to change it in their service, one of their service reps asked me to 'wait for the indicator to blink'. I lost confidence in them after that idiotic answer (in my car, the indicator blinks to indicate the CVT has a problem, NOT as an oil change reminder) and started to change it by myself from Stafford. Warranty being void for it may be technically valid , but the way events unfolded from the beginning, I thought they were just waiting for a reason to give to get out of the warranty claim.

It seems the service was good at the begining because the customers were less and they were just starting off.

Now nearly every car being sold seems to be sold with a Service Warranty and its probably from Sterling. So now the claims are racking up and they are dragging their heals.

Personally, the government should intervene and ask Sterling to register themselves in Sri Lanka as an Insurance company so the same controls apply to them and you have the ombudsman service available for complaints.

If I was buying a car, I'm tempted to ask the vendor to remove the service plan and give me a 200-300k discount instead and I'll take care of repairs myself without having to face my blood pressure be raised by this type of idiot.

Had the OP checked online, he would have learned that the Error with the EGR is easily remedied by a good thrashing at high speed... :)

Apparently, according to some forums I read, it is a common problem with many Honda Engine EGR's and can be remedied. easily.

Wel, I like to point out two things, i lost my confidence on the first day itself,

1 - During my first service they told the Scan was good as Gold, but since i did a inspection in the Stafford before i bought my car i knew there was a fault, because the left side muti-function has been added after importing to SL. When i queried how can their scan be good as gold, the answer i got is the equipment they have might be inferior to that of Stafford. And they expected only positive comments.

2 - My brother owned a FIT and My neighbor owns one too, all of them follow the routine given by Stafford, and when i queried about the Gear Box oil change, what they told me is that to wait till the indicator comes to change the oil, wel, i have asked them to do a change of oil in the next service. We'll see how this works out. They were insisting that i do not have to do it.

Yes, replacing he EGR solved the problem, and it seems a very common problem.

So the summary is that they'll be at your beck n call if you're a paying customer, but if you're claiming a free repair/service/warranty then you're the shit that's stuck to their shoe.

And I'm not familiar with the model of car and when/why the transmission indicator comes on, but if you look at it ethics and economics dont go hand in hand for these people. Though the ethical thing would be to take the safe route (for you) and do routine oil changes, the more profitable would be to wait for a car's transmission messes up (most likely to happen after the warranty expires) and bill you for a replacement job ;)

Pissuda goiyo... OP has probably mortgaged his left testicle to buy the car... whos gonna pay for the petrol for thrashing the car at high speed?

Perhaps you should update the original thread to include this as well.. will help whoever reads the thread in the future...

Whats the going rate for left testicles these days?

LOL.

I am a firm believer in the Italian Tune method of solving minor glitches in cars. Having owned 2 Italian cars that works very well under extreme driving conditions I can attest to the success of a good thrashing on a clear road.

My current 155, after months of hibernation, is now singing like Celine Dion high on crack in Las Vegas.

Everything works, long dormant systems comes on line at 100Kmph. :)
