Best And Reliable Dash Cam For A Car??

Randeep

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a car and thinking about installing a dash camera on front wind shield. Had a look at ebay and found that the most cameras are chinese products which will be around $20 - $50. Only reliable camera I came across is the G1W model which gives sharp recordings.

G1w ebay link - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-Full-HD-H-264-G1W-Car-DVR-Video-Recorder-Camera-G-sensor-HDMI-Dash-Cam-/221511223506?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item33931908d2

I saw one of the members has mentioned about this, but it has been broken after about 5 months. Anyone with good experience with G1w or another type of dash cam??

Using the same Dash cam for about 8 months now. Works fine so far. I record about 16-20 hours driving time a week on this. I had couple of minor gripes about it i mentioned on the other thread Magnum quoted.

Yes. I saw that thread. The dash cam mentioned in that thread has been broken after 5 months or so. Just wanted to know about a reliable cam model from AL users.

Still you would have been answered if you posted your question in the thread Magnum shared, because it's basically the same question.

AL is seriously overflowing with multiple redundant threads which makes information even hard to find.

I'm with Davy on this. After being called a newbie rapist many many times, I've stoped being a bitch about the jacka$$ed who who open a new thread whenever they want. Just look at the current top threads..

1. In the last 2 weeks, i lost count on the number of threads about the budget's effect on cars.

2. Which car to buy; new car or used car?

3. Car stereo review

4. Dash cam (and this guy SAW the tread and STILL decided to open a new one)

It's unfair to expect the mods to be on the ball about this and merge threads as soon as there's a redundancy. Hence I believe WE as members should not encourage such redundent threads by responding to them, but instead should direct the OP to the existing thread and END the redundant thread.

Come on guys, let's all help make the forum cleaner and easier for everyone.

Ok. Let me answer these last two replies. If you look at my thread, it's not about just asking about dash cams. It has certain information, which i found from this forum and from internet. The threas magnum referred, says " cool ebay gadget for cars". And when i searched in the forum i found that there's no separate thread for dash cams. Then i decided to open a new thread dedicated to dash cams only. I dnt see a problem with that. What i can see is, these pro members with high post counts, always trying to bitch about new threads. Only the members who are relatively new give a helping hand. This is a community and it needs pros as well as newbies. Seems like these pro members spend more time on abusing new members rather than giving a simple answer. Typical Sri Lankan mentality. And this will be my last post in AL.

Now stop getting your panty in a twist. I too bought one of these Dashcams and bloody thing failed after 3 months. Battery swelled and was about to explode. None of the ones available in LK are of good quality, and the ones that you find on Ebay are from China with dubious quality themselves. You get the parana yakada mudalali types selling them on FB and all but I got one from such a chap and it did not even last a month. Quality was horrible too.

Best thing would be to invest in a GoPro. Its a one off investment and will survive the harsh driving condition in LK.

OK, since the OP needs to be spoonfed every bit of info here goes; it's not about a "thread" existing, but the fact that the "information" exists. And it maybe the first time you're asking the question so it may be justifuable to you, but to the people who you expect to reply would have said what they have to say on the other thread. Do you want them to type it all out for YOUR convenience? The world doesn't revolve around you, you know!

And don't bitch about others having high post counts. Not all of those came from bitching about people like you. Some of them DID have valuable advise, but it wasnt for YOUR question, so it doesnt count in your books right?

I do agree, a GoPro would be best, but it's a lot of money. I think the current lineup is around the USD400.00 mark. My 'chinese' action camera which was about Rs.8000 has lasted me a while (not used continuously like a dash cam would be used though).

And from what I hear dash cams will be a lot cheaper than action cams cos they dont have all the added demands of being waterproof, shock-proof and what not.

Hey Randeep,

To get an idea of what you exactly want, just watch the below video. You'll get an idea of what are the things to check before you buy one. The guy who's doing this particular youtube channel has few camera reviews too along with footage that he recorderded.

Cheers
