Irregular Brakes

Hello friends

I have a problem with my starlet. Need your expert advice.

I have restored an EP 71 recently.

Brakes were overhauled. Discs and drums were refaced. There were only slight error to be corrected. Then brakes were fine.

But after driving around 5000km it started to feel some irregularity on the pedal . Discs were checked and found some errors again. Refaced again and

fitted with new disc pads. But after another 5000km the symptoms appeared again.

I am clueless what is going on. Please shed some light on this.

By the way the car runs very smooth, alignment is OK, No wobbling or anything.

Also, do you mean the pedal feel is not consistent? Like towards the bottom end does it feel more like an on/off switch?

I have the same problem with my Japan visits. Eventually I too brought a car over there because

1. renting a car in Japan for 1 month costs 240,000yen (without insurance, gasoline, etc...) and you can buy the same car for 1,000,000yen

2. well..it was the only way I could have some of the fun to drive cars as they are unavailable or unaffordable in SL

However, in a SL context considering the cost of cars and the rental costs; I too agree with the others...go on renting ! Also, for your budget you are looking at a significantly old car which even if you are lucky enough to find a good speciment (which is highly unlikely); even then you would have to spend on pre-emptive maintenance etc for it to continue to be in good condition. So yeah...go n renting...

Look on the bright side..if you rent..you can have different types of cars depending on your feeling .

If you do decide to buy a car...maybe you should buy it with the intention of your family using it...or atleast you renting it out to others so that you can justify the investment. The justification you have done is really not sufficient justification. So if you let the family use it then you can factor in that cost (which might show you that you can spend a bit more than mil on the car) or the income from renting it out.

Yeah it is somewhat pulsating but no pulling to a side or no sinking of pedal.

my concern is after refacing the discs/drums why it is happening again

wheel rims and tyres are all new

If the discs are the original ones that came with the car, they might have developed "hot spots" that causes the discs to wear unevenly. Resurfacing only provides a short term solution in such cases, so your discs might need replacing.

Before replacing the discs, the front hubs and callipers need to be inspected for misalignment.

Drums too can wear out unevenly, but not as easily as discs according to my experience. If it's the drums that are responsible for the judder, it is most likely due to a crack.

I replaced my front brake disks recently, there were cracks on the surface. I could have resurfaced but opted to go for a recon pair, costed me only 6000 bucks.

However it might be hard to find disks for some models.

Problem solved.!!

It was due to a warped hub. Bit scarce to find but fortunately found a good piece at watte.

Pair of rotors were also replaced because the existing pair has been machined to the limit.

Now the brakes are fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the hub is warped you should feel the vibration even without braking right ?

No vibration at all felt without applying brakes.
