Maintenance Of Hybrid Cars

Recommended Posts

Joins the forum on the 23rd September 2014, opens 11 redundant threads to date.

OP, Can you stop opening new threads each time something pops up into your head and search the forum instead? Or just open a thread titled "Help with my hybrid car" and ask all your questions in that.

U dont need to bother about the threads.if u cant add valuable comments pls mind your own job without being a peeping tom

Listen, I asked you politely to quit cluttering the forum without reporting your scattered threads (related to the same thing - maintaining hybrids) to the moderators and site administrators. Keeping the forum organized is everyone's responsibility; one doesn't need to be the "owner" of the forum to advice another member to do the right thing on behalf of everyone's interest. So of course I'm bothered about it.

If you have to call people names when you are given advice, then I'm going to leave this to the moderators and let them clean up the mess you have made.

We are asking questions since we are confused and get advice from those whohave knowledge.

This is not a problem for anyone who are thinking that they are godfathers

Pls dont write vulgar words and behave like animals.be polite and humble and dont let down new forum members who are still new and getting used to the forum

Auto lanka is not anyones propetty and any member has the freedom to publish threads

Actually the main site and the forums are privately owned,So it is someone's property.

Davy made a very reasonable request for you to stop opening multiple threads. There was no need to call names.Respect has to be earned around here...Even a handsome god like me is not above calling names as my warning point tally clearly shows..So I hope you calm down and continue to post here in an appropriate manner.

If it's a new hybrid, better to go for the agents. They will say what to do. For general services go for A*to Mi**j or some one popular. they will do it

oh man.... Personally I too don't like hybrids and I have so many arguments against them. Even if I have money I won't buy a hybrid and that's my personal choice. But simply because I don't like hybrids, I don't want ruin somebody's car by giving wrong information. I dont think anybody else in this forum would do that. People come here and post things simply because they love cars.

If you say this as a joke, ok fine I'd laugh and go away.

I drive a hybrid which I have been having for 1 year. Some general tips I can give you:

1. Read the service manual. Note down all the recommended oils and ALWAYS use them and nothing else. Dont try to save money by going for alternatives it would screw you over in the long haul.

2. If your car comes with Warranty for hybrid battery, I think you have to do the services at the importer for the warranty to be valid. Read the warranty agreement and make sure servicing from a different place doesnt void it.

3. Do the CVT fluid change at at least 20k intervals. Most local mechanics and service stations would advise you 40k intervals but in SL conditions do it at least at 20k. 10k or 15k intervals is even better. ALWAYS use the genuine recommended CVT fluid and nothing else.

When you drive it, try to switch off the display or change the view that shows the current fuel consumption for the trip. Driving with fuel in mind may cause:

1. Sleepiness if driving late night.

2. You being a road hog on the fast lane

3. It acts as a distraction and you glancing at the fuel figures can be the seconds delay that causes accidents.

3. Kills any pleasure of driving in general

Im not kidding.

And if I were you I'd stop insulting other members and being an ask-hole. People here would help you if you if be nice to them and respect them.

What I know is there is no need to change hybrid's CVT oil as in Prius it's called E-CVT. It's long lasting I suppose. Correct me If I'm wrong...

I dont use the car frequently

Is it true that hybrid cars should frequently run for its good performance of battery

It depends on the car and the type of battery. If the battery is a Lithium-Ion, then I guess it wont do much harm to have it idle. If it's Ni-Mh, I think under use can cause harm due to their memory effects as such. It also depends on the vehicle model. How frequently are you planning to use it anyway?

Oh I didnt know about that. I was mainly speaking with Honda hybrids in mind. But you seem to be correct and e-CVT transmission in 3rd gen doesnt seem to require frequent oil change.

About the CVT oil changes, I would say check with the agents just to be on the safe side. The RAV4's CVT is a non serviceable unit and requires inspection and oil change if needed at 100K and my father-in-law's Allion 1.8 got a CVT oil change at 112K.However, in SL people are adviced to change it at much lower mileages for these models. So although the manufacturer's general service recommendation indicates one thing what is required for the local market might be somewhat different (especially in case of JDM models,etc...)

The agent offers the Prius and the Prius C don't they? Since they probablyhave many grey imports come in for service hopefully they will have some idea.

If you dont use it much why didnt you get a normal ICE car. It doesn't make any sense to buy a car that beneficial with high usage if you DONT have high usage.

Did your neighbor buy a hybrid few weeks before you did??

Manufacturers have got it wrong before iRage. Remember the great ZF box debacle on BMWs in SL?

Basically the service intervals are advised to make vehicles attractive to purchasers and now nearly every car comes with these long service intervals. These are now being blamed for a lot of premature wear on a lot of cars, particularly in Europe. 20,000 mile engine oil changes are frankly too long even in a milder climate and believe me my oil shows the battle scars. Its turned into this black muck :) But the dealership insisted last time it does not need changing since the car says so :) But I plan to do it anyway.

This 20K number might be a little bit over protective, and comes from the issues Honda CVT boxes had in the previous generation. But without valid data nobody really knows how well the new CVT boxes will hold up, so everybody is working on the side of caution, because the fluid changes are cheaper than repairing or replacing the gear box. Until recently nobody could repair CVT boxes in SL, so the only option was a swap, but I believe there is some hope now.

There is a belief that when washing undercarriage of modern cars it is not suitable to apply penetrating oil

Seek opinion regardin this since most service centres use penitration oil when washing the vehicle

I do not see a reason to use penetration oil on the undercarriage. I always make it a point to tell the servicemen not to use it on my car.
