2Din Dvd Player Help

Jor-el

Question

Autolankans,

I'm looking for a good 2DIN DVD player for my car. My budget is 50k (max). Can you guys recommend me any particular brand? What is the brand you are using - and are you satisfied with it? Are chinese ones reliable?

Requirements:

1. Main requirement is the reversing camera.

2. GPS

3. Entertaintment

4. USB

5. iPod connection

Car in question is a Lancer CS3 GLX (2009).

To install reversing camera, should they cut electrical lines or are there factory - fitted ports for plug-and-play? I'm asking because I'm worried about fire hazard due to a shoddy job by whoever installs it. Should I buy the player elsewhere and get that fitted by agents? (Uni*ed M*t*rs)

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

J.E.

There are a few branded ones available, and I suggest if possible to avoid Chinese units.

Blaupaunkt I believe is the cheapest known brand

Sony comes next

Kenwood is probably the next one along and then pioneer. All these are fairly good units but for sound I'll go for Kenwood or Pioneer.

They all have an in for the reverse camera and have a maps application as well as ability to sync up to your phone and give you access to phone functionality. I think you should be able to get a Satnav program working for SL.

Reverse cameras are available branded as well as chinese and they work with eachother.

Prices you need to go check with the usual joints, Bara, Sun lanka, Pet#o etc etc. Get a few quotes.

Whatever you do, don't go to UM for this.

I guess with this budget you can buy a kenwood player from Pet@o Lanka. Stay away from Chinese stuff. I my self is a victim of those crap.

A CS3 with a double din dashboard! A very rare option in SL.

For years I've been looking at good ways to do a double din conversion on my CS3 but they were either too expensive or involved cutting up the dashboard.

Anyway, you shouldn't have to go to the agents to get the system installed as long as you get it done from a good place like P3tco, B@ra etc. They've probably done it on many Lancers before, so you should be alright. And +1 on advice against going for a cheap Chinese brand.

Thanks Crishan and davy..

@Davy did you saw this

http://m.ebay.com/itm/361205222556?fits=Model:Lancer

Thanks, that actually is the cheapest one I've come across yet I think. The kits that were available during 2009 - 2011 were much more expensive. Planning to sell my CS3, so I probably will not do this now.

I've installed a Pioneer dvd player in my car along with front & reverse cams. As I knw there is no need to cut the electrical lines (for Aqua but I guess with 2-din connectors you get all you need to do set a reverse cam). I've installed that unit from Micro-devices, Kadawatha for around 43k. I tried S** L#nK@ & Pe#co. But prices were much higher. Audio quality is good & bluetooth connectivity is really helpful. But as they have told me, u need to buy a separate unit to get GPS work which is around 10k for all branded audio units and then the sala satnavi chip for around 10k. But the chinese & thaiwan units comes with built-in support for GPS. I also recommend you to go for a branded one.

Using a JVC player and it's so far been reliable. It has the usual gizmos such as USB,SD,DVD,Bluethooth but doesn't have GPS or TV.

I have found that using the phone with Google Maps navigation to suffice my needs at least in Colombo. As most have said here, i'd avoid Chinese unbranded units if I could.

But have you checked Android powered units? I saw a couple of them on Ebay. Looked really cool but im not sure about their reliability.

You could get Good Pioneer Jvc or kenwood unit for that price. Caska is a chinese one too. Only difference is, it does have a name :)

I think i saw a JVC dual din set up advised for around 35K in Hitad by G!lbert something(cant remember the company name properly)

There is a compatibility issue in US FM tuners even they are full range.

In US ,radio station only uses odd decimal frequencies for transmission ( 88.5, 88.7 ) so most digital tuners manufactured for US do not tunes to even decimal frequencies ( start from 87.5Mhz and make 0.2 jumps from there). So even you have full range tuner, u'll not be able to tune to almost half of stations in SL.

Hmmmm Thanx guys for the info. @magnum no idea mate. I thought they had separate outs. I think Ill buy one from SL. seems the units are cheaper here. And theres the risk of custom checks as well. Buying from here is better anyway cos I can personaly select a good one with options I want and can check for audio and video quality with a good interface... :D Pet#o will be ok yeah?

Got myself a pionner AVH-X26750BT about 3 months back with JBL GTO speakers, so far so good. I'm happy with audio quality and features. was around 36K

I don't think you get separate outputs for tweeters but for sub, yes.

Hi folks... need some expertise with regards to the 2din/setup.. :)

Initially my plan was to go for a 2din reverse cam too... after reading few threads gave up the idea coz most people have commented here that the reverse cam doesn't make any better than the side mirrors.... so i thought of only going for a good setup...

my requirement is I only need a good FM/CD/MP3 and USB port.. I need to be able to adjust the base and trebles too... so with this regard I would only want to go for a PIONEER Setup... but I'm not at all good in this subject of selecting a good player that fulfill only this aforementioned need of mine...

and another thing... I have 2 back speakers as well.. right now they don't work, but the front speakers work... so can it be that, the speaker covers are there in the back but no unit is inside?... in that case I would want to have backside speaker units too... right now the exisitng cd player in the car doesnt give a quality output... so can this be the fault of the front speaker or the setup itself (the treble and bass is useless)...and also when installing speakers, will they remove the original speaker casing of the back? (or will they just drop the speaker unit inside and keep the original casing? is it mandatory to replace the casing of the new speakers like that?)

so my knowlege in this area is nill, I would like to know, should I buy all 4 speakers also with the pioneer setup or should I buy only the setup, and is can I buy both these from one plays, or is there a special place i should go to in order to buy speakers that is relevant to the setup in buying (voltage levels etc.) ? :)

So far I came across these 2 setups... both these caters my requirement, but I don't see a difference in these 2 models.. can someone who is experienced in this area, explain me what are the differences of these 2 same setups? :) (also are these prices higher than the average prices or are these cheap compared to the pioneer setups in other places?)

https://mydeal.lk/deals/view/819

http://ozonelanka.com/Pioneer-DEH-X1750UB-Car-Player?search=pioneer

also now since there will be a space undeneath the normal setup (since im not going for a full 2 din setup) how can i utilize the balance space to add something else, coz i dont like to have a blank space inbetween, i would like to see the center panel compact and full :)

Your advice and help is highly appreciated :)

Personally, aftermarket head units look a bit out of place compared to the stock radio. And the flimsy buttons and the crappy displays and/or UI leaves a lot to be desired. But can't argue with the better sound quality and the connectivity options available in the new head units.

I'm doing a little reading into rigging up a 7 inch android tablet to act as a head unit, which may be of interest to you. But there's a lot to consider and a bit of thinking to avoid having a fire risk bolted into your dash :D

If you are going for a aftermarket head unit, you can look for a car specific adapter fascia that will help you mount the head unit without having gaps.

oh no no that's too much of a plunge to take and im not willing to walk through that door :D

All I need is a decent pioneer setup that would fulfill my basic car needs while in the car :D

But yes as you said, it will be hard to find one that fits like the stock one's and if so, I guess I will have no choice...the current one sux..

Then get yourself a head unit adapter panel to close the gap.

ok and regarding the speakers is there any specific watt or levels that should be there in speakers if I am to install some speakers?

I have come across 3 speakers and I want to have the best one that would suit the voltage levels etc.
Any idea which one will fit my car profile out of these?
And the SETUP I have selected is as follows;

As far as I know, the speakers, Amp/s and the HU have to all be 'aligned' to complement each other to give the best results. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with this but I'm sure someone on the forum can shed some light. Otherwise, you can pay one of the professionals and hear what they have to say.

Why don't you go to a place like P3tco Lanka or Advanc3d Car Audio and then get their professional opinion on whether your current speakers can be used with your new head unit or whether you will have to use new ones? You then don't have to bust your brains trying to figure out which ones are compatible - especially if you are not sure of what you want.

As for the rear speakers, open the trunk and peek under the shelf behind the rear seats. Check if speakers are disconnected or are missing altogether.

Also, I'd go for a full double din setup if I were you, given that the dashboard has a double din slot. Another option is to have a single din unit with a separate in-dash amp or equalizer that uses the remaining 1-din slot. Might be useful if you are a music nut.
