Hello every one. I own a Maruti Suzuki 800 2010 model car. As every one know these cars don't come with power steering. So there is a great difficulty in parking the car.

1. So please let know Is it possible to convert Maruti's normal steering to EPS (Electronic Power Steering) as in the Alto

2. If it is possible please let me know the places where it could be done

3. The cost of the conversion.

4. And the parts which are used in the conversion and which parts should be replaced or changed

Any comment will be a great help for me :action-smiley-012:

Due to the car has not designed with power steering variant, I think you have to modify the structure of the car lot. So I don't know whether its economical modification. However, nothing which cannot be done.

The cheapest could be Alto system. However, there is a electronic part too. Its working only at stopping and low speed. at high speed, its disabling as its not required. So you have to keep it on mind too. Your battery capacity also may not enough and need to replace it too.

Agree with others about the Maruti 800 not even needing power steering. I have driven many Maruti 800s and the steering was pretty light compared to older cars without power assistance. Before thinking of a conversion, I think you should get your steering system checked and lubricated properly. The steering box (if any) and linkages need to be greased and properly maintained if you want the steering to remain light.

If you really want to convert the system to power steering, I think EPS would be the way to go as you have correctly mentioned, because a hydraulic system would be a pretty big job that requires modification of your entire front suspension, your engine would need a power steering pump (mounts might need to be fabricated and your drive belt will need to be changed), and a power steering oil reservoir that is hooked up to the pump and rack.

So you might want to check the compatibility of other Maruti/Suzuki EPS systems with yours. If you find a good system, it would be as simple as swapping the steering column and wiring up the motor. Some after-market universal EPS systems allow you to mount the motor assembly in the engine compartment which will allow you to keep the steering column intact. So it's all about finding the compatible EPS system. In any case, I think you will be spending big bucks for the conversion, compared to the value of the car, and it might not be worth the effort.

Agree with the general sentiment here. I think it will be an exercise in futility. Given that the 800 has a reasonable second hand value it would be worthwhile considering "upgrading" to an alto.

Also is it really that difficult to park a maruti? (Honestly I don't know cos I've not parked a maruti ever - but it cant be harder than a 1960s VW bug) Or are you brought it recently and not quite used to it? If so you'll get the hang of it soon.

You have difficulty in parking a Maruti with no power steering ????? Geez

i also wondering that, power steering is increase driving pleasure. otherthan that parking issue is not a problem .anyway better to sell it out and go for alto

I think you say difficult to park the car without power assisted steering, means you feel uncomfortable to handle steering while car is stationary (while parking movements).

As suggested by other members, please check your steering system.

If everything is ok, you have to adjust with the vehicle. These vehicles are really lighter and once you are familiar with the vehicle it is comfortable to you. (I previously owned Japanese Alto 660cc without power assisted steering) :)

Is it too late to suggest a consistent routine of Barbell curls for the OP to solve the issue? Just kidding :D

It is definitely a doable mod but as others have mentioned, it might end up being money down the drain. It could be something that can be solved easily by a simple check and servicing of the steering system. Considering the market for Marutis, there's no guarantee that you will be able to recover the investment at the point of selling the car on and even end up being an issue if the potential buyers feel that the added on system may cause issues for them.

If you have difficulty in parking the Maruti without power steering, just get out of the car, lift it and carefully put it on the parking spot. :D

Thank you my friend. By considering all these things I changed my mind to go for an alto. I will be a better option as Alto is more comfortable, spacious, and stylish than a Maruti

I've been entertaining the notion of converting one to electric.
