How many of you know that there is an Air Filter connected to blower of the air conditioning system of a vehicle and it should be replaced around every 12000Km?

cabin air filter mostly located in rear panel. You can remove the filter from in side the dicki. But my vehicle not includes this. I had this in my early AE100. you can buy filter from the agents. it is better if you can change it

The first thing you would do is get the a/c system cleaned out. Including the evap core. You would have to buy a new cabin air filter from panchigawatte. Go to a place that deals with nissan parts or there are a few shops that specialize in filters. Tell them the make/model/year of your car and they should be able to get you one. Keep the reciept. Try installing the filter while it's still in the plastic bag just to see if it fits, if not return it and ask for one that does. Pollen/cabin air filters are not very expensive. They are Rs. 400 up.

you should change the cabin filter every 10,000km or when ever you are changing your air filter. In fact its advised to be changed at 10,000km even in Japan, so ideally we should do it sooner

If you don't want to breath all the dust from our street I recommend you change it. also if you can't afford the genuine cabin filter go for a VIC or even Sakura!

I usually clean this filter myself. It is easy to do, if it is easily accessible (mine is just behind the glove box).

If you can afford the cost (usually around Rs2500) I recommend replacing it earlier than 10,000km since we have so much dust on our roads.

Tip:

When cleaning this filter bear in mind that there is a direction marked in the air filter (marked as "Up" usually on one side).

You should clean it by blowing air from the upside (dust is there only on the bottom side). And remember to fit on the same side as it was.

manufactures recommend the change interval by miles because its hassle free method to do it. but i personally don't do it by the miles i just check whether the filter is clean or not and change when its dirty. Cabin air filter interval depends on where the car is driven and how often you use AC/ heating.

I never knew about Cabin Air Filter until I came across this thread after I became an Autolanka mamber. Thanks Autolanka !!!

It was not factory fitted for Perodua Viva Elite but found below links from the net.

http://translate.google.lk/translate?hl=en&sl=ms&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcikgunas.net%2Fbahan-pengajaran-dan-pembelajaran%2Fcabin-filter&prev=%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fcikgunas.net%2Fbahan-pengajaran-dan-pembelajaran%2Fcabin-filter%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DzY6%26tbo%3Dd%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&sa=X&ei=-O8PUZaTMsXyrQeF9YHwCA&ved=0CDAQ7gEwAA

http://peroduavivaez.blogspot.com/2011/01/cabin-filter-aka-air-cond-filter.html

So made a small cut and opened the hidden slot allocated for Cabin Air Filter. Then I fixed a Honda City cabin air filter after doing a small modification .

After six months (7000km) today I opened it and the cabin air filter was full of dust.

Meanwhile I found an air filter made for Toyota Passo and perfectly fits for Perodua Viva Elite. So I fixed it. Just posted this as this information may help someone.

Great work Sampath! I think this qualifies for a new DIY thread if you can post more photos and stuff.

Since the car was used for a considerable amount of time without the air filter, I can suggest that you clean the blower fan as well. I'm sure you'll find some dirt on the blades.

The Lancer CS doesn't have a cabin air filter as well, and dust easily gets accumulated on the blower fan. Remember seeing a covered slot that was intended for the filter, but mine looked like it had to be messed up with a lot to get a filter in there. Should have another look.

Really? I removed the glove compartment to check and the slot is covered up. I remember the AC workshop guys also telling me that it doesn't have one. Should check for the possibility now. Thanks for letting me know bogzy!

Changing the cabin air filter every 12,000km - 10,000km seems a bit excessive to me.

Not sure about the cars commented on here but on mine the change interval for the cabin air filter / pollen filter is around 50k. Even if I was to go conservative and change it out at 30k that's still MUCH higher mileage than what you folks are recommending.

That being said, changing it out earlier certainly does no harm. Its probably better that way, but as mentioned above by 'blkr6' I'd check whether the cabin air filter is blocked / dirty and change it out only if it needs it, rather than by going with the mileage alone.

I remember discovering it during one of my weekend expeditions :D

As i remember it had 3 screws and was a fairly big filter compared to the one Sampath has shown.

Hi Davy,

Yeah the Lancer got one (mine is CS3, 2008 though), Thanks to this tread I manage to change mine simply.... Replaced a non-genuine one which cost me Rs. 2400/- When AC is on some days the car smelled like pee when the old filter was there, now that issue is gone. (I found this tread when I was looking for a solution to get rid of Pee smell in my car)

I feel the 2400/- is a bit too much for a non-genuine, I purchased mine (Toyota) for a similar sum at Toyota Lanka somewhere in 2014. Anyways just forget that now and enjoy your odour-free car :)

The later CS Lancers probably came with one. Pretty sure mine (2001) didn't have it.
