4WD System Service & ASC System Service Required : Outlander 2014 (Petrol)

While driving, suddenly i got the above mentioned 2 indications popping up. I did a front wheel tyre rotation few days ago. This issue came after driving roughly about 100Km. Could that be a reason ?

I have attached the pics for further clarification.

I would like to get some idea abt this from anyone who had this issue before.

Also, can someone recommend a place to get this checked up ? Or should i used Unit#d Mot#rs ?

Definitely take it to Un!ted M0t0rs. They have a proprietary scanner that they will use to scan your car and read what error codes have been thrown by the OBD system.

The ASC error might be if your car travelled in an excessive amount of water or if you went over a puddle at high speed what caused the error. If this is the case, the error is a one-off issue which should never come again. I'm not sure about the 4WD system issue, but I assume they're both related.

getting many errors at same time could be related to wheel speed sensors which give input to both systems affected. But you need a proper scan to confirm.

I went to UM today and they did the scan and detected the issue was that when they have done the front wheel Tyre rotation along with the wheel alignment the onboard computer had detected a change in the steering wheel center degree measurements compared to the actual wheel measurements (its hard for me to explain. from what i understood basically there was a issue with the steering wheel centering when the wheels are directed straight) . Hence the sensors went out giving the errors 4WD Service Error + ASC Service Error. Further they told me both those alerts are monitored under same section so both types of errors pops up when the vehicle computer detects something related to ASC/Wheel Speed Sensors.

So they did another wheel alignment and fixed the Steering Wheel Centering issue and did a calibration through their software which fixed the error. They told me that the system calibration in the on-board computer needs to be done if there was significant change done during the wheel alignment and otherwise the system detects it as a fault and service indicators comes up.  I hope i wont get any more heart attacks

Glad you got the issue sorted out. A regular garage would have not been able to do most of what you have explained because of the lack of proprietary (Mitsubishi specific) diagnostic tools - especially for re calibration.

even tyre pressure is indirectly calculated from the input of these sensors nowadays. Glad that OP solved it without much hassle.

I must say, even though there is nothing interesting currently imported by Uni*** M****s, they do a reasonable amount of a role to keep Mitsubishis in the country on the road. Hefty sum it maybe.

Yes, let alone being an agent and comparison with other make agents. 

Certain shanty makeshift joints charge similar or more with no specialist tools and a bunch of "mechanic bass" and some fancy badges with dealer status in the middle of some coconut land

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2D.

Hi, had this error displayed intermittently along with 4WD service required - and then going into limp mode. Could clear the fault by my OBD fault code reader but only for it to return after driving for 1/2 -1 mile - worryingly. Fault code reader would show P0106 which mentioned 'manifold pressure etc' which then led me to suspect the EGR valve - perhaps - clutching at straws. Anyway, cutting it short, removed the EGR valve which wasn't very dirty - but gave it a clean. Then looking at the unit that the egr valve attached to, and poking inside with my finger I thought there seemed to be  a bit of 'crud' where a small ( about 8mm) rubber pipe was attached to the outside - and went up to a sensor. Taking off the small rubber hose I poked a wire through the  metal tubing, which was partially blocked, into the unit. Repeating this with the wire to unblock the pipe, I re-assembled everything. Bingo! took for test drive - perfect - no more warning lights on the dash. So there I was thinking I had major 4WD problems or more and it turne out to be a small blocked pipe by the egr valve.

Any idea what may have caused it?

 

Is it symptomatic of a larger issue or just something stand alone that some regular preventive maintenance can address?

The sensor at the end of the rubber hose you cleaned is the MAP sensor. From what I have learnt, it's common for the rubber hose to get blocked with carbon in these Diesel engines. Apparently Mitsubishi has addressed this issue in later model engines by relocating the EGR end of the hose before the actual EGR valve location. Your's being 2014, I assume this was the former version.

Was the error you got "4WD Service Required" or just "Service Required"? I'm quite certain that they are two disconnected issues. On Mitsubishis with their AWC system, regular diagnostic scanners won't read DTCs from these systems. You have to use a Mitsubishi specific MUT3/Multi III diagnostic scanner to read issues in the AWC system.

Anyway, glad you diagnosed the issue on your own and got it resolved. Kudos!

So can a bending rim can corse this issue

Is your bent rim causing air loss? If not, then just a bent rim is unlikely to cause errors in your AWD system (unless the damage is significant..see below)

If you banged your wheel and caused some damage, then the telemetry of the wheel,the suspension, and the axles might be off. This might cause the AWD system to act weird.
