My first car - Teana J32

IndulaC

Recommended Posts

Hey guys so this is my first post in the forum and I'm thinking of logging everything I'm doing for the car in this thread. So this is my first car, it's a 2008 Nissan Teana j32 with a VQ25DE engine. The car has 111k km on the clock and still runs smoothly. The previous owner had everything documented (services, part invoices) so I'm a bit lucky there. I'm about to do my first service and I'm thinking of doing a full fluid flush including the CVT oil as well.

So my aim is to make this car as luxurious as possible that includes suspension change and anything that makes the ride comfort pristine.

Throw me any questions or tips regarding my mission and I hope to update everything happens to the car regularly.

Cheers✌️

Haha yes I know how weird it sounds for a guy to pass a Mark x for a Teana but for me the fact was every Mark X that was for sale on the moment was either had a very shady past or repainted by a color blind painter. I chose the Mark x in the first place because of the FR layout and the driving dynamics of it. But since no good mark x was left I chose this because generally it's well equipped than the standard Mark x and overall freakishly comfortable.

I've always been a Nissan fan since the glory days and I believe the quote "Nissan is japan's Alfa Romeo" even in this car there are a lot of characteristic flaws like the doors are too big that they won't stay open, the side mirrors change position in the R gear to accommodate a better viewing angle and then forgets the previous position it was in.

Anyhow happy to be included in such a positive group of nissan fans.

Ah! That makes sense then!

Not sure about the better equipped (As alas! I have never had a Mark X) But the Teana is amazingly comfortable. And is one of the few modern (commuter cars) that have really good rear seat comfort as well as front seat comfort. So good choice if that was a priority...Honestly this is one Jap car you wouldn't mind sitting in the rear.

Quote

the doors are too big that they won't stay open,

Really? Never was an issue for me? Mine always stayed open, no issues. (The rear doors definitely stayed open in various angle increments, as I've had to jump out and close them on multiple occasions after inconsiderate rear passengers left them partially open) You may have some abnormal wear on the hinges. Do all the doors not stay open? Perhaps an adjustment is in order?

What the hell? I've owned multiple Teana's and I never knew it flipped the mirrors down in reverse? Whaa?! Does your car have some kind of higher trim level or something?

Yeah maybe you know any good place for such? And I don't mind adding more sound proofing for the doors as well because I need the ride to be quite as possible.

Really it's such a pleasure to talk with a teana owner. By the way I'm thinking of upgrading my suspension to a more comfier one, do you have any suggestions and any experienced personal?

Looks like its off if you keep the mirror control in the middle position (like any decent human being would do ? )

@IndulaC I'm seeing posts about the tilt thing but no complaints about it not going back to normal after you're out of R. Might wanna check it out.

Well I'll be dammned! Just looked on some forums and seems like it was a standard feature. Honestly a WTH moment for me and I thought I knew the car inside out....

Anyways here's a forum thread discussing it the problem @IndulaC. Looks like its a known problem. Give it a read.

I remember oogling at a Silver example at the Col 2 Nissan showroom back in 2011. Was a fully loaded with pano sunroof and stuff. I was super impressed by it back in the day. made me realize there are japs that come close to euros.

It was parked next to a Murano which I liked even better. Ahh good days.

Was(Teana) priced at around 12Mil unless I’m mistaken.

How much did you grab yours for? That is, If you don’t mind mentioning of course!

Nissans sadly seem to be crap in the hillbilly land. God awful cars that blow up under the hood. Asian models seem much better.

ohh how I wouldn’t mind a Nice 300Z ?❤️

@IndulaC..congrats on the new car. Glad you found a decent

Finding a good Mark X is not that easy in SL. The good ones are crazy expensive (as the OP will tell you) and the reasonably priced ones are quite shady (although they are shiny from the outside). Sadly most of them have gone on to ricer and racer boys with limited budgets but big aspirations. The two simply do not go well together.

Yes but no but yes...the Nissan does have more gadgetry in it and even the sheer number interior screens, buttons and knobs make the Teana feel space agey. The Mark X feels more simplistic in the interior. It is well- equipped but feels simple. Also, in SL most of the Mark Xs are pretty low grade models 250G and 250G F package trims. Whilst these grades have more options than your fully loaded Allion, it also lacks a lot of the gadgetry that the higher trim levels had which would equate the mid ranged Teanas.

tips regarding my mission

Well..what exactly are you going to achieve ? Because pristine comfort ride is not very specific. If you want to improve the stock ride then you would want to replace all the bushings and tie rod, control arm, etc...components.

On the other hand, the Teana feels very pudgy and barge like which is what gives it a floating in a cloud like ride; but its not very titillating to drive. If you want to go for a sportier suspension setup, that cloudy ride is going to go away. So I suppose you should look in to a proper coil over setup which has adjustable dampers. This will also help you get a better stance for the car.

Secondly, the VQ25 is actually pretty nice and smooth...the 180hp is barely enough for the car (it wieghs the same as a Mark X but nearly 30hp lower and has a CVT). It would help to get a proper exhaust system....something that will help that engine breath better (I am not talking about a beet can for noise). Granted it can get quite pricey..and a place like WickedEP will do a good job as any exhaust system with a Japanese name tag on it.

Thanks man you were a massive help in the Mark X hunt and true most Mark Xs that are for sale currently has a very shady past, and I found a good quality car and the owner asked me 55 million? (still worthy when comparing to a premio) but I couldn't make up my mind of spending that much for a car which is in anyway 12 years older to the date.

Well frankly my father will use this car mostly after 2021 because I'm going abroad to finish my degree, so I need to make the most quietest, most comfy teana in the island. So I don't mind sacrificing driving dynamics because he only drives this car 4km daily through suburban traffic. So my plan is to upgrade the suspension (air ride the car if possible), soundproof the whole car etc. So anything ideas/tips regarding that mission is highly valuable.

proper exhaust system

For the time being I'm thinking of getting a proper exhaust system with valves and increasing the sweet induction sound of the NA V6. I have some experience around VQs since I did a megasquirt build for one of my friends VQ30 engines in a Gloria Y33. But I'm keeping this as a second priority for now because firstly I need to make the car as comfy as it can be, so later if I have some time and money to kill I can enjoy a proper exhaust note.

I bagged it for 4 mil and my budget was 4.5 so I had 500k of extra spending to fix the tiny stuff in the car.

True that, Americans hate the brand more than any country, as a brand Nissan can't match with Toyota in USA , even though in my opinion the 400z is way cooler than the new Supra.

Currently up for sale but they are asking a hefty amount?. Still in some ways totally worth it

Thanks man maybe the actuator motor is a bit flimsy but hey I can't get everything in a 12 year old car so I need to fix these stuff 1 by 1. Btw my passenger side power seat inclination switch cover is broken and know any place where I can get one? The seats works fine but I need to get this car back to it's glory days

My Crown now has an aftermarket section somewhere in the middle near the cat, it gives a nice deep tone under load but at other times it will be quiet.

I tried to make it even more louder by replacing the mufflers also with an aftermarket set up but that turned out to be a terrible idea and went back to stock mufflers immediately. V6 engines with loud exhausts create lot of drone inside the cabin. If comfort is your priority you will end up driving with the valve closed most of the time, which is pointless and probably not healthy for your engine.

It will sound nice when you drive it hard and between gears, but once you drive continuously at a certain speed it becomes properly annoying.

Talk to an exhaust specialist and get an idea.

Yeah man that's why the exhaust and engine upgrades are my second priority rn and frankly because this is a CVT you can't get those gear changing exhaust drops?

Wow! I actually like that picture of it, debadged and all. Sorry @Devinda_Z I am a bit of a self admitted mas-kade look fan after all... but lose the colour on the rims and the lettering (probably just vinyl anyways) and you have a very nice ride.

Do it @fiat fan ! Perfect opportunity to pull a @Komisiripala and buy it for yourself, claiming its an early anniversary / late wedding present for the wife :D

Ah! Perfect car for him. He will love it. Don't do anything keep it stock! Its setup perfectly to cruise around in Dad mode.

The Teana's suspension is already pretty good. Its quite a pleasant soft ride already. I don't think you need really worry too much about it. Its not a performance oriented car, but it is certainly setup for space and comfort - Which it does it well.

As for sound proofing: Yes. That would make a difference, and something you can easily do.

Ayio no: Don't do an exhaust or mess with the suspension. Leave it be, its setup really well for its real prowess: Which is cursing around town soaking up bumps and gliding along smoothly and shiftlessly in traffic.

Do you have the old cover / part?  For looks like it can be fixed as the actual switch is in place.

(It looks like its just the plastic outer part that is broken. Looks like a fix was attempted with glue, but what you need is the kind of chemical bond material / glue (its a resin) that when mixed together  later hardens into a plastic like material. You could even insert two small sewing needles in the holes shown, with the sharp needle point facing out into the plastic you are bonding back on so that the bond is further strengthened. This may sound complex but its not. Just half a beer's work on the weekend I think...)

Congrats on the purchase. Looks in very good condition and love the front passenger seat. The Teana's have a resemblance to the old Mercedes S Class in styling.

It really does. Very similar to the w221 front end the back end has differences tho

I bet my suspensions are a bit hard right now because you can't get that wow effect. So I need to get that wow effect that smoothens almost all bumps in the road. I'm thinking of buying a 4 KYB excel Gs, you think they are better than OEM ones?

Unfortunately no, I ordered a button pair from alibaba so I think it'll be all G. But if you know any place I can find stuff like those in SL please lemme know because I won't trust $2 Alibaba buttons during this curfew times delivering on time
